Chicago Mayoral Election

October 5th, 2010

Oh, Rahm

So Rahm Emanuel has made his big announcement that he’s going to run. And where did he do it? Well, after his big send-off at the White House, Rahm took to youtube. It does not go particularly well.

Rahm may be a brilliant political operative, but he’s got all the charisma of a tree stump. This whole internet campaigning thing is nice if he were capable of being an inspirational candidate, but nothing in his personality or political track record suggests that he’s going to get otherwise apathetic voters out to the polls.

Next Rahm is going on a listening tour. Since David Hoffman decided not to run, I don’t currently have a favorite in the race. I think that Rahm is a savvy enough politician that he could do a lot of good and perhaps expose certain alderman as frauds along the way if he were so inclined. But a Rahm that cares about something other winning political games would be a version of the man we haven’t seen before.
