What’s Better Than French Fries?

French Fries cooked in duck fat! Fortunately for me, they are available on Fridays and Saturdays at Hot Doug’s, home of the most highly-praised encased meats in all of Chicago.

This was only my third trip to Hot Doug’s and, as usual, the food was top quality if a tad expensive. I went with a regular grilled Chicago Dog, which at $1.75 is the best deal on the menu.

I also got the The Atomic Bomb, one of the day’s many specials. The Bomb is made out of spicy pork sausage and comes with sweet and spicy curry mustard and jalapeno-havarti cheese. It was excellent, but if I’m going to spend $7.50 on a sausage I should probably get a more exciting meat than pork.

And on the way home, we swung by GRod’s house where there were multiple news trucks outside. I should have stopped in to say hi.

Dinner, Lebanese Style

Went to Semiramis tonight, which isn’t too far from my house. Everything I had was excellent. The hummus was the creamiest I’ve ever had, the salad had some mint and lemon on it that was really good, the white meat on the roast chicken was a little dry, but the dark meat was great and the flavor on the whole bird had some spices I’m not nearly sophisticated enough to recognize but that were outstanding. The highlight of the meal might have been the free little dish of olives and beet juice covered turnips that were soaking in some olive oil and vinaigrette.

I don’t often crave Middle Eastern that can’t be satisfied by Reza’s, but should the need arise, this one will be the first to pop into my mind. Enjoy the pictures. I need a better camera.

The Greatest Theatrical Production in Human History

Here comes word that a musical based on Michael Jackson’s Thriller video is in the works and will likely open in Chicago. Even better, Michael is going to be personally involved in the production.
